In this Monday, the NBA released the list of 36 referees chosen for the playoffs of this 2021/2022 season. The list brings newcomers like Eric Dalen, Mitchell Ervin and Justin Van Duyne.

In the list of veterans, names such as those of Scott Foster, which comes in its 28th season in the NBA, and Tony Brothers, with 163 playoff games in his career. 

Jacyn Goble, who debuted last season in the select group of referees who work after the regular phase, was confirmed in this list and will enter the court once again. 

Jacyn is not the only one of his family in the playoffs; his brother, John, is already a constant presence in the games that will indicate the two teams that will reach the tournament finals.

Nesta segunda (11), a NBA divulgou a relação de 36 árbitros escolhidos para os playoffs desta temporada 2021/2022. A lista traz estreantes como Eric Dalen, Mitchell Ervin e Justin Van Duyne.

Na lista de veteranos, nomes como os de Scott Foster, que vem em sua temporada 28 na NBA, e Tony Brothers, com 163 partidas de playoffs contabilizadas em sua carreira na NBA.

Jacyn Goble, que estreou na temporada passada no seleto grupo de árbitros que atuam após a fase regular, foi confirmado nesta relação e entrará em quadra mais uma vez nesta fase. Jacyn não é o único de sua família nos playoffs; seu irmão, John, já é presença constante nos turnos que indicarão os dois times que vão chegar às finais do torneio.

An essential factor for any professional, mental health is often relegated to the background by several factors. Lack of time, lack of money, and even shame in seeking some therapeutic method limit the worker to seek help in an increasingly fast world that demands a lot from those who work.

The psychologist Bia Porfírio cites prejudice and resistance as obstacles for someone to seek treatment. “When we talk about mental health, there are some things we need to take into consideration. The first is prejudice (…). Talking about being emotionally ill is still very unlikely. Mental illness is part of life”, explains Bia.

Game assignments are tight and require constant travel; the acting environment is a veritable melting pot of emotions. Outside of it, verbal – and sometimes even physical – abuses from fans are a constant of the craft. As Bia points out, the fear of failure is also present in the lives of those who are involved with sports.

With all these difficulties and the distance from the family, the referee’s mental health is impaired, and his performance within the four lines generates problems, both for him and the teams and athletes.

One of the most legendary cases of the NBA was Joey Crawford, who in 2007 kicked Tim Duncan out of the bank of the San Antonio Spurs under the pretext that the star of Gregg Popovich’s team was laughing. Later, he admitted to going through troubled times, and the episode caused him, supported by the league, to seek psychological support.

For Flávia Almeida, Arbitration Coordinator of the National Basketball League and Ph.D. in Physical Education with an unprecedented study in Brazil on Burnout Syndrome in basketball referees, the daily rush leads to an isolation of the individual. “With the increase in technology and a life full of commitments, people are isolating themselves more and more and having less interpersonal relationships healthily, increasing social isolation more and more,” he explains.

“It would be no different with the referee, especially since, due to his work, he spends a lot of time away from home. For this, it is essential that even with the coming and going between games, the referee can maintain a routine of healthy habits, both physical and mental. Regular physical activity, healthy eating, meditation, quality sleep, and maintaining constant contact with family and friends (the technology also helps in this regard) make the referee maintain balance, a significant factor for his performance on the court.

The important thing is always to seek help when you feel that you cannot solve a problem on your own, and the existing support network within the referee group itself is ideal for this first step. However, if these actions are insufficient, the referee should seek expert help from a psychologist,” advises Flavia.

On November 9th, 2021, Uruguayan referee Marcel Ciechanovvechi committed suicide, as reported by El País. He was 35 years old, and, out of respect for his passing, the Uruguayan Basketball Federation suspended the round that would take place on the day.

The Uruguayan Union of Basketball Arbitrators, the UJOBB, posted a letter on its Twitter, asking the country’s government to have more aid and prevention plans on the subject. The publication also stresses that mental pathologies affect the whole of society.

Três canchas ganharam cores vibrantes

A NBA, em comemoração aos seus 75 anos, lançou um projeto de reforma de três quadras no México. As áreas esportivas receberão uma pintura especial com as cores vibrantes que caracterizam o país. No último domingo, dia 13, foi inaugurado o espaço de Torreón, no estado de Coahuila, norte da república. O ex-jogador da liga, o pivô Horacio Llamas, que atuou por dois anos no Phoenix Suns, estava presente e foi homenageado na pintura de um mural.

Brasil, Argentina e República Dominicana também terão iniciativas semelhantes impulsionadas pela liga. No dia do evento de inauguração da quadra em Torreón, uma clínica foi realizada com mulheres atletas, que puderam estrear o lugar recebendo orientações e dicas profissionais sobre basquete.

A nova quadra também servirá como uma referência cultural, além da esportiva, na região de Ejido la Paz. Esta ação é um desdobramento do trabalho da NBA Cares, divisão filantrópica da liga, na América Latina.

Three “canchas” will have a vibrant color

Commemorating its 75th anniversary, the NBA launched a court reform project in Mexico. The sports areas will receive a unique painting with the vibrant colors that characterize the country. Last Sunday, the Torreón space was inaugurated, in the state of Coahuila, in the north of the republic. The former league player, center Horacio Llamas, who played for two years at Phoenix Suns, was present and was honored in the painting of a mural.

Brazil, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic will also have similar initiatives driven by the league. On the day of the opening event of the court in Torreón, a clinic was held with female athletes who were able to open the place, receiving guidance and professional tips on basketball.

The new court will also serve as a cultural reference, in addition to the sports one, in the region of Ejido la Paz. This action is an offshoot of the work of the NBA Cares, the league’s philanthropic division, in Latin America.

Vanity Fair shows F1 drivers to talk about the Netflix series “Drive to Survive”

Fashion and F1 have long been style and business partners, and Vanity Fair, in its April 2022 issue, writes about the launch of Netflix’s fourth season of the Drive to Survive series to showcase a few Formula 1 drivers with some stylish looks.

The issue photos were taken by Nick Riley Bentham, with styling by Michael Darlington and clothes and accessories by brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Tiffany & Co., Dior, Hermès, and Lanvin.

The magazine doesn’t focus on Lewis Hamilton, who loves fashion and is constantly present in fashion shows. Instead, the McLaren duo, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, George Russell of Mercedes, and Esteban Ocon (Alpine), are portrayed in the edition, with singer Grimes on its cover.

Drink some tequila with style – that is the proposal of the bottle holder of Lobos 1707, LeBron James‘ tequila brand. It’s the first product of the Legacy collection, launched this year. With space for a bottle, the holder is produced in Italian leather, customized and handmade by Sheron Barber, a fashion designer known for his work with this fabric.

Barber develops exclusive products in leather for many sports, such as motorcycling. Recently, he created 100 balls with Louis Vuitton pattern and logos from Super Bowl LVI teams – Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. The winner, Rams, was later honored with an exclusive ball, also made by Barber.

He showed us how he had sewed the ball in one of his Reels for Instagram – made from an NFL official one. Then, the designer shows to his audience, quickly, all the sewing details.

Details are the differential of Barber’s work, whose studio was named after him. This tequila bottle holder, for example, shows the wolf symbol of LeBron James’ company printed in the leather. The consumer who purchase this exclusive gift also will take home a keychain from James enterprise.

The aesthetic relates to the aged drink; therefore, the chosen leather tone was bronze, as the buckles of the handle are all in gold.
